METEOROLOGY
We collect local climate and weather data, both as a research field in its own right, and
also to provide complementary data for our other research activities. The laboratory has
two small weather stations located on its flat roof top. One of these stations has been
working since 1996 (ENERCO, France) measuring wind speed and direction, and ambient
temperature; while the other has been in operation since February 1999 (Campbell, USA)
measuring on a continual basis wind speed, ambient temperature, global solar radiation,
relative humidity and atmospheric pressure.
Particular importance is given to research into wind currents in the troposphere. Wind patterns have a significant effect on the concentrations of smoke due to forrest buring and emssions from automobiles.
As we gather more seasonal data we are able to carry out time series analyses of meteorological parameters to forcast and predict future patterns.
In 2002 an additonal two meteorological stations been aquired and will enable us to have more regional data as well as improving inter-equipment calibration.
Section data
In general the South of the City exhibits maximum temperatures during October of 25°C , and a minimum temperature of 0°C during June. The windiest month is November with a south-easterly direction and velocities reaching 21m/s.
